Mary Ellen Francescani CRNP

Welcome to MiddleWay Wellness! I'm excited to share a bit about myself and why I believe in the unique approach we offer. I have been practicing nursing for almost 30 years, and I am dedicated to sharing all that I have learned with my patients. I hope to help my patients navigate their health by working alongside them on their journeys.

Dedicated to True Healing

I grew up in Long Island, just outside of Manhattan, and I have always been drawn to learning and adventure. I have visited and lived in Asia, South America, and Africa, experiences that ignited my passion for understanding people and their diverse backgrounds. My deep understanding of what makes people well or unwell, happy or unhappy, or balanced or imbalanced led me toward medicine.

A pivotal moment came during my travels to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, when a compassionate nurse inspired me to pursue her career path after helping my friend with severe altitude mountain illness. This led me to Johns Hopkins Nursing School, where I received my training. My career began in Lancaster County, working with the Amish community in Diabetes research. I went on to spend over 12 years in intensive care at St. Joe’s Hospital, gaining invaluable experience in high-stakes care that requires both intensity and compassion. Coming full circle I ended up back in Nepal, working as a medical officer for 5 years helping people in the same situation I had first met that inspiring nurse in.

After becoming and working as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I was increasingly frustrated with the fast-paced insurance model that forced me to see, manage, diagnose, and treat patients in just 15 minutes – it felt incompatible with truly helping people heal. I returned to school again for Andrew Weil's Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona. I was deeply inspired by this model of medicine. This is how I wanted to practice medicine in my own life!

At MiddleWay Wellness, I believe in removing barriers like insurance and time constraints to truly connect with and understand my patients. My goal is to partner with you on your journey to health, offering a blend of evidence-based medicine and integrative practices. Whether you need conventional treatments, herbal supplements, nutritional counseling, or simply time to share your story, I'm here to listen and support you. I want to help you navigate this increasingly complex healthcare system. Through working with me you will be taking your health back into your own hands but if you need to step into the traditional healthcare system for specific issues, I will be there to guide you and advocate for you, as I know this system well.

I'm thrilled to bring this patient-centered model to our community, addressing the gaps in our current healthcare system. Together, we can achieve better health and well-being.

I am a mom to three wonderful kids—Anabelle, Henry, and Maisy—and a wife to Jerry who has been with me for much of my journey. I love live music, rising early before dawn to go on walks, meditating, going to the movies, and growing flowers in my garden. It's the simple things in life that fill my heart.
